Farmer’s Market

IMG_3184It’s Saturday morning! This means I just went to the farmer’s market to get all my fruits and veggies for the week. After that I usually drive to the health food store for some yummy sprouted bread and other delights. When I get home I have a hungry husband and doggie waiting for me so we can make our traditional Saturday morning brunch. Today I made some delicious hash browns, sautéed shitake mushrooms with tamari, grilled mochi with maple syrup and of course some of that delicious bread I got with some vegan butter and some strawberry and apple jam. Yum Yum YUM!

I always try to get something at the farmer’s market which I’ve never cooked before to try new veggies, and today I saw these adorable long green onions (not sure I’ll be able to eat them because they’re just so cute!). According to my awesome veggie vendor, they’re something between a leek, a green onion and a garlic sprout. I can’t wait to try them! My other score today was this beautiful bunch of collard greens. These aren’t new in my kitchen by any means, they’re a weekly (almost daily!) staple at our house, but they were just incredible this week! My awesome grower is trying to find some mustard greens and red kale for me, they aren’t typical in Spain but he’s calling around all the local farms to see if he can find any for me! He just rocks!
